The City of Inglewood has taken a number of proactive measures to address the high incidence of adverse public health events in some of its communities. It offers a variety of programs for residents ages 2 to 80, including preschool, tutoring, after school programs, physical activity programs (i.e., karate and yoga), and special events.  These programs reflect the city’s motto:  “Creating community through people, parks and programs.”

The City also collaborates to create synergy in serving its residents. The city of Inglewood has recently partnered with AAUC to provide safety classes for bikes and skateboards and toddler car seat safety.

In spite of its numerous successes, the city is always looking for ways to improve the community. To this end, the city of Inglewood recognized the potential strength of a partnership with Jim Cleamons, SISF, AAUC, and Building A Champion. Although the city has a variety of programs for all ages, it recognized a uniqueness within this collaboration. Not only were the programs innovative and successful, but also the commitment and passion each partner brought was unlike any other. The city’s goals are to build strong, long term relationships with the community through strong, long term relationships with quality partners. The partnership hosting the Jim Cleamons Books and Basketball Camp was ideally suited for the city’s objectives. The collaboration brings a different aspect to Inglewood’s programs. The collaborative’s programs broaden the programs the city is able to offer its residents. They facilitate the development of new programs that will ultimately enhance the community.

The city looks forward to promoting the Jim Cleamons Books and Basketball Camp and hopes it will be a platform for quality individuals, like Jim Cleamons, or first-class organizations like the LAKERS to promote activities such as read-a-thons or the feeding of the homeless.  The city offers a supportive environment in which the collaborative partners can grow and develop more programs. The city’s support and ability to broaden the outreach of these programs provides fertile ground in which to harvest great results. Collectively, it serves as a great collaboration.

Inglewood is hosting the Jim Cleamons Books and Basketball Camp at its Rogers Park facility.  The city seeks to emphasis the importance of in school, sports, and life.  It is the key around which everything revolves.
