The Simple Truth About God's Healing
by Ken Schortgen Jr
There is a simple truth in churches today that speaks volumes to Christians everywhere.  Why is it that even though Pastors and Elders pray, anoint with oils, and fast do only 5% of the people ever get healed or delivered from their illnesses or bondages?  Is it that God doesn't want us to be healed?  That is not the case, as he shows in His Word, 3 John 1:2
"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."
With the Lord outlining His desire for us in health, why do we not know the keys to fullness in life, and sustained health in our bodies?  It is because most of the church does not understand the nature of illness.  We are inundated by television commercials about new and old drugs that can 'give us' a better life, and Doctors that are trained in the physical pathways of medicine, not the spiritual ones.  What we truly see is that over time, different institutions have taken away the responsibilities away from the correct people to provide the tools for healing.  Here is what I mean by this statement, and how it has evolved over time to affect us.
The original Doctors were actually known as surgeons.  For the most part, they were barbers or butchers who's sole purpose was to remove and set bones and limbs, and attempt to stop a bleeding victim so that over time they might heal themselves.  There were no original psychiatrists in ancient times, as mental illness was not seen as a physical malady.  Healing was done by the churches, and by alchemists who used natural remedies to stimulate your bodies' immune system.  Mental illness was a spiritual malady that was treated by removal of the demon or spirit.
Spring forward to modern times.  The churches either lost the control of being the prime healers of people, or they gave up the responsibility to groups of people who dedicated their lives to healing of the sick and injured.  As that responsibility grew without check, these people became the modern day Doctors and are now seen as societies foundation for healing.  As with government, when anything goes unchecked, the desire for control or power magnifies and different fields of study grew out of the foundations of physical treatment.  One particular field that evolved was that of psychology.  In psychology, the root premise is that man is his own entity and has control over himself through his mind.  Mental illness is not spiritual, and as such, the need for belief in the Soul is of little importance.
Today, churches have lost or forgotten much about God's plan for healing, and the results are what we see now.  5% of the people who go for healing in a church get healed, and 95% are left wondering if it is God's Will that they suffer.  I would like to tell you that this has NEVER been, or ever will be, God's intention for us.
So, what is the secret, or more importantly, God's Plan for us to be healed and well?  I believe in my studying and praying and asking for God to reveal His true intentions for all of us that His healing plan in the world is in one simple scripture.
Mark 6:12-13
"And they went out, and preached that men should repent. 13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them."
Jesus was sending out His disciples to minister to the world, and healing was the focus, and as it should be, the dominion of the church.  Let's take a look at this scripture and see why I believe it is the key to our being healthy on this earth.  I will break down each key component and see why too many people focus on one aspect, while neglecting the others.
1. Preaching that men should repent - Healing of the Soul.
2. Cast out many devils (spirits) - Healing of the Mind.
3. Anointing with Oil that were sick - Healing of the Body.
Do you notice that God spoke of all three aspects in the same scripture?  Could that mean that if one area is sick, then it can manifest in the other two areas as well?  Absolutely!  And it is this key knowledge that most churches fail to grasp when healing in God's name.  Issues that affect the Soul do not show themselves in the conscious world, so are very hard to recognize.
Repentance.  How many scriptures repeatedly speak of this to us?  Too many to count, and why is it that many Christians still deal with the consequences of not repenting?  I believe it is due to the nature of repentance.  Repent means to 'turn away from' and is especially seen in the Jewish Holiday of T'shuva.  T'shuva is the time of repentance just before Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) and is an important time that God deemed for the Jews to reflect on their sins and turn away from them as God prepared their forgiveness (atonement).  It is the same with us today, and here is an example that I found in my life.  There were many people that had done wrong to me throughout life, and sometimes I would ask God to forgive them for those transgressions, and sometimes not.  What I noticed over time is that when I would think about that person, the only thing that would appear in my mind was what they had done to me, and I would start to get angry because of it.  Forgiveness is NOT necessarily something that affects the person we forgive, it is meant to affect US from the stigma of the incident.  Many of you have seen the affects of a negative person.  They seem to age quickly, and are just unhappy and bound to acts of anger very quickly.  This is the outward view we see of someone's Soul affecting their' physical body.  Another way that un-repentance affects a person is through the mind.  Have you ever spoken to someone and without conscious though said something spiteful or hurtful, even in jest?  The scripture says that the tongue has both the power to curse and to bless, and when you say something to, or about someone, it is actually manifesting from your Soul and coming to the conscious world through your tongue.
Once you find the areas in your life that you have un-forgiveness in, ask the Lord to forgive that individual, and release it… completely.  You will probably not be completely released in your spirit right away, but as you become more and more aware, you will catch yourself speaking ill of others and stop that action, thus changing your spirit… just like quitting a habit.
Casting out of spirits and devils is a more difficult task to perform by yourself than the healing of the body and the spirit.  The scriptures say this about casting out of spirits: Mark 9:25-29
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. 26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. 27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. 28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
